John Mayer feat. Taylor Swift - Half of My Heart

from the forthcoming album Battle Studies, avail on 11.17.09

I’m not doing good at abstaining from listening to the new songs, but that pledge was made before I knew I was going to the album release concert.  I have to be prepared!

Jon Hamm in high school?  Good God, man.
Now I’m even more jealous of Jennifer Westfeldt (the first reason being that she did a sex scene in a movie with Showalter, of course.)

There are people who celebrate keeping people who love each other apart.  There are people who make it their pathetic life’s work to keep two people who belong together from not being together.  There are people who revel in not letting others be genuinely happy, and making them feel like second-rate citizens in their own country, for the want of “preserving tradition.”
These people are assholes.

Not only are these people assholes, but they’re losers as well. Maybe not last night. Maybe not next year. But those numbers are tightening. Every day that passes by is another chance for someone who misunderstands gay people to meet someone who is gay, or have a family member come out of the closet, or have true love come into their own lives and realize that love is not something that can be granted or won in an election. Everyday that passes by a new person will see that gays are just people trying to find something in this life to hold on to. Just something to make each day in this fucked up world a little bit brighter. And these people will realize that this is all political grandstanding and ideological nonsense, and the tide will continue to turn.
These assholes pictured above are the New England Patriots at halftime of Super Bowl XLII. They are the British Army celebrating the victory at Charleston. They are the rich white dudes who a hundred years ago didn’t want blacks and women to vote. They may be winners today, but history doesn’t care about what happens at halftime. All that matters is the final score. And in the end, I guaranfuckintee you that our side will be victorious.
So let em cheer. Today we live in a world where a lot of people who love each other can’t get married. In about 20 years, these people will live in a world where those same people WILL be able to get married, and they will have to shamefully explain to their grandkids why they were on the front page of the newspaper celebrating an ignorant and hopeless cause.
So who are really the winners here?

You know who’s awesome?  People named Greg.
